New community portal online!

Posted by on May 20, 2012 in General, Terasology | 0 comments

We’ve just finished setting up the new community portal replacing our good old phpBB 3.0 powered board. AlbireoX kindly contributed this XenForo license – thank you! We actually have not finished setting everything up yet and there may be a lot of changes in the forthcoming days and weeks but it looks like all threads, posts and user accounts from the old board were successfully migrated. If anything is missing or not quite right: Let us know! As a small start we’ve tried to reorganize the structure of the message board. Any requests for new forums or overall feedback are...

Starting into the new year: Blockmania becomes Terasology

Posted by on Dec 31, 2011 in General, Terasology | 0 comments

After searching for a fitting name to replace the working title Blockmania for a while, we have finally settled on one of the first ideas that came up: Terasology, a name derived from the words teras (from latin monster) and logia (from latin study). A hack on Anthropology so to say. We have moved a lot of stuff around and also switched over to a new company profile on GitHub. Make sure to update all your bookmarks! If some links are pointing to the wrong location make sure to send me a short note or leave a comment in this thread. Thank you! And… a happy new year to everyone! ...

Free high-definition skybox

For the latest screenshots of my FractalTerrain module I used some skybox I found some time ago. Yesterday I got a myself copy of Vue 9 (the low priced Esprit edition) and rendered a new skybox using its exceptional spectral atmosphere model. I tried to give the sky a very stylized and unique look during post-processing… And because I like the result so much, I have updated the images in my previous post (and added two additional pictures). I’m releasing the skybox under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License. The package contains the unaltered renderings as...

What about Blockmania!

Posted by on Jul 29, 2011 in Fractal landscapes, General, Terasology | 0 comments

I’m currently working on another project that also involves procedural terrain generation and fractal landscapes – but not on the trivial level of blocks. This time I’m developing  a complete library of noise-, filter-, simulation- and rendering-modules in C# using the XNA framework as a subcomponent for a computer-graphics-framework. The FractalTerrain module supports heightmap and voxel-based approaches utilizing the Marching Cubes algorithm and very elaborate shading and rendering techniques. I’ll keep posting footage as the project evolves. Maybe this know-how...

I’ve just added my bachelor thesis (on the subject of iPhone application development) and a small paper (on the subject of real-time depth of field effects) to the content sections of this blog. Both are written in German.
